Arena League

We do not currently enter a team in the Arena Leaugue, although our best swimmers compete through UBSC.

Southern Junior League

The Southern Junior League is for swimmers aged 9-12 and there are 3 galas during the year in April, May and June. The club aims to put out the strongest team possible for these galas and special one-off training sessions may take place before the first round to practice starts, turns and takeovers. The age as at date for these series of gala's is always the date of the 3rd round gala.

Cotswold League

The Cotswold league has 5 galas spread from January through to May. The age groups are 11/under, 13/under15/under and Open. There are time restrictionson who can swim in the Cotswold League (swimmers finishing faster than a cut-off do not score points), therefore the club may not be able to field it's strongest team in this series.

Mini Series

A friendly series of five Galas held every year together with Bishopsworth and Bristol Central, Clevedon, Soundwell and Severnside. Age groups U10, 11, 12 and 13 years. These Galas are meant to give a chance to compete to as many as our swimmers as possible. If you would like to take part please let John or Matt know!

Open Meet

Open Meet events are similar to championships in that they are open to anyone, swimmers enter as an individual, there is ultimately one winner and medals are awarded. They are organised by clubs primarily as fund raising events (Bristol North has one in September) so there is an entry fee and the event may be held all in one day or be spread over several days. Many of these events will be licensed (ours is not) by the ASA at a particular level so will have a qualifying time and, maybe, a cut-off time to eliminate swimmers above a standard. Most championship qualifying times must be achieved in licensed events so swimmers may travel long distances to take part in open meets. Entry times must be submitted and, if the event is very popular, entries may be rejected unlike a championship where if you qualify you are entitled to swim.

County Championships - Gloucester Blocks

These are usually held in the new year and to enter you will need a qualifying time obtained in an Open Meet or the Club Championships for all age groups. There are also team relays/medleys that Bristol North can enter if the coaches think we have swimmers of a sufficient (high!) standard.

Regional Championships

One notch up from the Blocks are the South West Regional Championships.

Club Championships

These are held in the autumn - 2014: November 1st and 29th for the sprints with longer distances spread around various training nights. Age groups are U11, U13, U15 and open. There is even a parents race! Full details appear on the club notice boards nearer the time.

Percy Smith Schools Gala

A Gala series for local schools to give pupils a taste for competitive swimming. These Percy Smith Galas ar held on Wednesday evenings at Horfield and replace timetabled training sessions.
